A seven-day Mega-Festival of the Oromo community started today on the campus of the University of Minnesota with a conference of Muslims. A highlight of the seven-day conference will be the appearance next week of the well-known Kenyan political scientist, Ali Mazrui, the Albert Schweitzer Professor in the Humanities and the director of the Institute of Global Cultural Studies of the State College of New York in Binghamton.

The Afan Oromo current affairs feature reports on many of the activities that will occur during the conference, including cultural shows, a soccer tournament, 5,000 and 10,000-meter races and gatherings of several major Oromo organizations in the diasporo.

The festival is sponsored by the Oliqaa Foundation of Atlanta, Georgia.
